Minnesota Senator Tina Smith says she plans to introduce new legislation that would tackle health care in rural America.
According to a release, the Strengthening Our Rural Health Workforce Act, with Republican Senator John Barrasso co-authoring, would work on recruiting and retaining health care providers in more remote parts of the country.
The Democrat Smith says the bill has a focus on recruiting and retaining mental health providers as well as general care.
Smith also says that the bill would help communities train residents to go into these fields, as someone who already lives in a rural area is more likely to stay there.
