The Bemidji Area School Board unanimously carried the first reading amending the public comment period policies and placement within regular meetings.
The public comment period was moved to the untelevised portion of the meetings at the end over concerns about the type of comments that were broadcast, said Board Chair Ann Long Voelkner.
After much discussion and amending the motion on the floor, the measure did carry unanimously, a credit to compromise, said Superintendent Jeremy Olson.
The amended policy, with the public comment period moved to the televised portion of the meeting after the board approves the agenda, will next be read and finalized at the March board meeting.
