At-large council member Thompson resigns

Bemidji’s at-large council member Jim “Doc” Thompson submitted his resignation earlier this month, effective immediately.

In his letter, Thompson extended his sincere appreciation for the opportunity to serve Bemidji. Thompson cited medical reasons and pandemic restrictions that made it difficult for him to perform his duties as a council member.

The council is expected to declare the at-large council member seat vacant and direct the City Clerk to call for a special election to fill that seat during their meeting this evening.

This would be the council’s second resignation of the year, as Ward 2 Council member Mike Beard resigned in February. Six of the seven council seats would be up for election this year.

Other items on the agenda for the meeting this evening include a discussion on Softball League games, and discuss rifle hunting within the city limits.
