Attempted abduction investigation underway

An attempted abduction investigation is underway after a Sunday evening incident near Cameron Park.

Two juvenile girls reported to Bemidji Police Officers that they were walking down the entrance road to the Park when a male asked them to walk into the woods to look at a snake.

The girls were reportedly nervous and tried to walk away, but the male followed them and at one point attempted to grab one of the girls. Both girls started screaming which made him run away to the northwest of Cameron Park.

The male was described as a man with a light complexion, in his late teens or early 20s, with acne, curly dirty-blonde hair, brown eyes, and a slim build. The suspect was wearing a red and black baseball cap, a black sweatshirt with white lettering, blue jeans, and square-toed cowboy boots.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota BCA are assisting with the investigation.

Anyone living in the immediate area is asked to check their outdoor surveillance cameras. The incident was Sunday around 6:25 p.m., surveillance information can be directed to Detective Nick Whichello at (218)333-8312.

Anyone with information can submit a tip anonymously to CrimeStoppers of Minnesota to possibly qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
