US Senator Tina Smith is working on forming legislation to bring renewable energy to Greater Minnesota.
Smith is the Chair of a Senate rural development and energy panel, and she has had talks with leaders across the country about how renewables would bring jobs and economic development.
Smith said that as Congress works to hammer out the details on the Biden Administration’s ambitious infrastructure package, she would like to see renewable energies able to compete with the established fossil fuel industry.
Smith says a balanced approach to the issue is needed to prevent higher energy costs, especially for Minnesota’s interests in the paper and taconite industries.
