Cass Lake man arraigned on murder charge

A Cass Lake man made his first court appearance in connection with last week’s homicide in rural Cass Lake.

According to a release from Beltrami County Sheriff Ernie Beitel, 21-year-old Montana Cutbank was arraigned for second degree intentional murder.

The victim, who has still not been identified, was found dead outside a home with a gunshot wound to the head.

Three other people were reportedly present in the vehicle with Cutbank when he allegedly shot the victim.

A sawed-off shotgun was apparently the weapon in the crime, which was located and placed into evidence.

Cutbank, after the shooting last Tuesday, was arrested in Duluth Saturday, and transported back to Bemidji by Beltrami deputies and is currently in custody.
