Cass Lake woman injured in distraction-related crash

A Cass Lake woman was injured in a crash yesterday evening.

The state patrol says 41-year-old April Hurd was northbound on Highway 6 near Bowstring Road in Itasca County when she went off-road and rolled into a ditch.

Hurd reportedly told responding officers that she was on her phone voice-texting while negotiating a left curve.

She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a Deer River hospital.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, and the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

Minnesota’s hands-free cell phone law has been in effect since Aug. 1, 2019.
