The Bemidji City Council held a lengthy discussion on Visit Bemidji.
The measure before the council, on Visit Bemidji’s bylaws and the cooperative agreement between the organization and the city, passed 4-2 with one abstention.
The most notable change is reducing the number of board members from 14 to 11.
Ward 2 representative Josh Peterson is the executive director of Visit Bemidji and recused himself from council discussion to answer questions in his professional role.
Bemidji Mayor Jorge Prince voiced his support for the work Peterson and the rest of the tourism bureau are working on.
The council also held the second reading and public hearing of the alcohol ordinance, with some language changes, adopted 6-1.
The amendments come before the council due to the Minnesota Legislature’s passing of the “Free the Growler” bill, which allows breweries to sell six-packs of off-sale beer on-site
The changes alter a paragraph to reflect sacrament at churches and other religious worship places, and would also update some pronouns to reflect “he/her” instead of “he/his.”
