COVID-19 updates for Monday, Aug. 23

More than 1,600 new COVID-19 cases and seven new deaths were reported today by MDH.

MDH does not post information on weekends. Two of today’s deaths happened months ago, in February and in March.

Of those cases, 29 were Beltrami County residents, eight were in Cass County, and nine were in Hubbard County.

One of today’s reported deaths was a Cass County resident in their early 70s.

Beltrami County Public Health Director Megan Heuer reported this morning that her department was still gathering weekend numbers, but active cases right now are at least 137.

According to the CDC COVID Tracker, Beltrami and Cass counties are both in areas of high transmission. Clearwater and Hubbard counties were upgraded to “substantial” transmission.

Masks indoors are advised regardless of vaccination status in areas of high or substantial COVID transmission.

Vaccination rates in Beltrami County continue to slowly increase, with 67.5 percent of the eligible population with at least one dose, with 56.5 percent fully vaccinated.

This is about a half-point increase in both groups compared to the last COVID report on Thursday.

In the week ending Aug. 20, there were 10 new COVID hospital admissions in Beltrami County, but no change in the percentage of county beds used for COVID patients.
