COVID updates for Friday, Dec. 10

Beltrami County Public Health Director Megan Heuer says that as of Friday morning, her department was monitoring 216 active cases of COVID-19.

Twelve COVID patients are occupying local hospital beds with five of them being Beltrami County residents.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported 3,754 new COVID-19 cases and 40 new deaths Thursday.

Eleven of those new cases were in Beltrami County, 16 were in Cass County, six were in Clearwater County and seven were in Hubbard County.

One of those new reported deaths was a Cass County resident in their late 60s.

MDH also announced Thursday that 16- and 17-year-olds can now get a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, provided their second dose of Pfizer was at least six months ago.

MDH Commissioner Jan Malcolm says now is the right time to “add this layer of protection for Minnesotans in the 16-17 age group.”

More than 4,000 COVID cases were among students this past week.

On Friday, MDH reported 4,554 new COVID-19 cases and 58 deaths.

Twenty-four of those new cases were in Beltrami County, 25 were in Cass County, eight were in Clearwater County and seven were in Hubbard County.

One of the deaths was a Clearwater County resident in their late 80s.
