Crosslake woman killed in ATV crash

A 38-year-old woman is dead after an ATV crash in the Paul Bunyan State Forest.

The Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office responded Saturday around 3 p.m. on report of a single-ATV crash with an unresponsive woman.

Life saving efforts were performed by responding medical personnel but they were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation reportedly showed that Cassandra Berg of Crosslake collided with an embankment on Thorpe Tower Forest Road and lost control.

The ATV flipped and pinned her underneath it.

Berg was apparently riding in a group, with one fellow rider finding her and beginning CPR.

Berg was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash.

The investigation is ongoing.

Nevis First Responders and North Memorial Ambulance assisted at the scene.
