Deer River man injured in crash

A Deer River man was taken to the hospital after a traffic stop turned into a vehicle crash Friday evening.

The state patrol says an Itasca County Sheriff’s Deputy approached a Chrysler 200 in the middle of the road on Highway 46 due to a medical issue.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop and the Chrysler drove into the ditch near Squaw Lake in Itasca’s Max Township. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

Thirty-four-year-old Vincent Kingbird was taken to the Deer River Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
