The Bemidji Public Library will be having the members of Northern Artist Association will display their art with various mediums oil, water color, mixed medias. The library is located at 509 America Ave in Bemidji.
Neilson Place presents a photography display of “Clicking Cousins” by Lily Hadrava and Andrea Martin beginning December 6, 2019. Lily’s love of photography started in a high school art class using a 35 mm Minolta camera and black/white film. She now uses a digital camera capturing the beauty of family, friends and nature. Lily also enjoys painting with acrylics and teaching American Folk art painting and stenciling.
Andrea’s love of photography started from Lily’s influence. She studied photography and managed photo labs. Andrea travels throughout the USA with her husband seeing the beauty in objects, animals and landscapes through her lens. She also loves photographing her grandkids. A reception, slide show and opportunity to meet the photographers is December 6, 2019 from 1:30-3:00 in the Neilson Place Lobby and Social Hall. 2nd Annual Holiday Winter Market opens on Friday Dec 6th 11am – 7pm through Saturday Dec 7th 9am – 3pm. Over 20 local Artisan will be selling their art at Northwest Indian Community Development Center ( 1819 Bemidji Ave). They will have photography, candles, bath salts, wall hanging, purses, painting ( from contemporary to traditional) bead work, jewelry, star quilts and more. Each vendor is unique with their own style of art. On Saturday Christmas wreaths will be sold by a 4-H member. Lunch will be available both days. Stop in see the beautiful hand crafted items from our own local artists.
Region 2 Arts will feature the “Anishinaabe Arts Initiative (AAI) Exhibit” with traditional and contemporary artwork by regional indigenous artists who either serve on the Region 2 Anishinaabe advisory council, or who have received or been part of a Region 2 Arts Council grant award. Opening reception is Friday, December 6, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Region 2 Arts Council office, located inside the Watermark Art Center, 505 Bemidji Ave. N., in Bemidji. The AAI Exhibit runs through January 16, 2020 and can be viewed Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
In addition to the exhibit, the Region 2 Arts Council invites the public to “A Traditional Perspective” limited fashion show celebrating the elegance and inspiration of 2019 AAI Artist Fellow Delina White’s Anishinaabe fashion designs. Come to the Northwest Indian Community Development Center, 1819 Bemidji Ave. N, in Bemidji on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the fashion show and celebration. These events are free and open to the public.
Watermark Art Center presents the photography of Vern Northrup, Visual Storyteller and the opening reception for his exhibit “Akinomaage” on December 6 from 5 to 7pm. Northrup will deliver a brief artist’s talk at 6pm. Using only the camera on his smart phone, Vern Northrup (Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa) captures the setting of where he grew up, creating a nostalgia for those familiar with the area, and a curiosity for those who aren’t. He uses photography as a tool to educate both himself and the viewer about the rhythm of nature, the preservation of tradition, and the relationship between resilience and sustainability. Northrup recognizes the ability of the land to act as a narrator and uses photography to reveal the story in landscapes.The exhibit will be on display until February 28, 2020. 505 Bemidji Ave. N, 218-444-7570, and at watermarkartcenter.org. First Lutheran will be hosting a reception for Butch Holden on Friday, December 6th at
First Lutheran’s Fellowship Hall from 2:30-4:30. Refreshments will be
served. Butch Holden’s exhibit includes a series of his paintings and intricate photographs, in addition to his well-known and celebrated ceramic pottery.
Headwaters Music & Arts will host “Encore: Instruments Reimagined “a group exhibit featuring the art of local artists and Headwaters supporters who donated their time to transform unusable musical instruments into surprising and innovative works of art. The initiatives raises funds for Headwaters with the goal to replace the art studio furnace and install an AC system. The public is invited to the opening celebration 5-6 pm Friday, November 1st at 519 Minnesota Ave NW, when silent auction bidding will commence. There is no cost to attend.

Wild Hare Bistro and Coffeehouse – Wild Hare Bistro and Coffeehouse will host an opening reception and pottery sale with featured artist Cyrus Swann, on First Friday, December 6th, 3-5pm. Merging media to create visual and spatial harmony, Cyrus makes a wide range of functional and experimental ceramic work, including bowls, bottles, groupings, sculpture and installations. A 2002 graduate of Bemidji State University in fine arts, Cyrus has been working clay professionally for 17 years and has established his studio in his home town of Pine River, MN.
