First Friday Art Walk: March

Gallery North will host Showcase Artist Alice LaCoursiere on March 6, 2020 from 2:00-6:00 pm. Alice’s oil paintings depict a variety of scenes from her travels throughout the country and in Northern Minnesota. She began oil painting back in the late 1970’s from an oil painting classes offered by the late Claudine Mattisen. She has been a member of the Northern Artists Association for about 18 years and treasures the many friendships and knowledge gained in that organization.

Gallery North is a non-profit cooperative art gallery that has been displaying and selling original art and fine crafts by area artists since 1989. www.gallerynorthbemidji.com. Gallery North is located at 310 4th Street NW, Bemidji.

Wild Hare Bistro & Coffeehouse will present “Perceptions of Nature”, new works by Bemidji painter Sarah Peterson , March 6th through the month of April. Sarah will exhibit a series of heavily textured landscape oil paintings, drawing on her background in ceramic sculpture to create a three dimensional feel to her paintings. She attended Minnesota State University Moorhead and completed her Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Art Education in 1998, concentrating primarily on ceramic sculpture. Sarah taught drawing, painting and ceramics at the Creative Arts Studio in Fargo, North Dakota before moving back to her hometown of Bemidji in 2005. She’s enjoyed teaching after-school art classes at Red Lake Elementary, and also watercolor painting as a guest artist at the Headwaters School of Music and the Arts. Sarah is a member of the Leach Lake Art League, and enjoys showing her work at different venues around the Bemidji area.

Watermark Art Center – Watermark Art Center is honored to exhibit recent works by master bead artists Thomas Stillday and Vincent Morris. The exhibit, entitled “Wezhichigewaad,” is an Ojibwe word meaning “makers” (pronounced “way-zhih-chih-gay-wahd”). Watermark will host the opening reception for both artists on March 6, 2020 from 5 to 7pm. The artists will talk at 6pm. The exhibit will be on display until May 30, 2020.

The Cabin Coffee House currently has photography by Cheryl Windells lining the walls. Cheryl is a local freelance photographer. Her work shows her passion! On top of that The Cabin is currently looking for more artists to add to the walls and they are looking forward to pop-up art shows as they find more talented artists to support so keep your eyes open as things change! Headwaters Music & Arts celebrates the power of creativity with its group exhibit Headwaters Heroes. The show features the work from instructors and volunteers of Headwaters. Stop by Headwaters Recital Hall (519 Minnesota Ave NW, Bemidji) during the Month of March to see the work of Caleb Erickson, Beth Andrews, Tom Daly, Mary Therese, Gillian Bedford, Elizabeth Westlund, and Diamond Knispel. Bemidji Public Library Art Wall – will continue to host the work of Alice Lacoursiere through March. Lacoursiere’s oil paintings depict a variety of scenes that she has taken photos of in her travels throughout the country and especially here in Northern Minnesota. Neilson Place continues the photography display of “Clicking Cousins” by Lily Hadrava and Andrea Martin. Both have a variety of photo from their travels throughout the United States displaying the beauty in objects, animals and landscapes.

Added to the walls of Neilson Place are the water color, acrylic and oil paintings of Ann Peterson. This artist is visually impaired and has beautiful paintings of her travels throughout the United States and many countries.

First Lutheran Church continues with work by Eve Sumsky in the gathering area. As a fiber artist, Eve enjoys exploring the different techniques of basket weaving, the variety of materials that can be used, and the old styles of baskets made in the past. The title of Eve’s show is “Ten Of A Kind: a study in design and weaving techniques.” Her challenge with this exhibit was to make 10 baskets and alter only one design feature or technique with each consecutive basket.

A series of Butch Holden’s paintings and intricate photography will be on display in Fellowship Hall. First Lutheran Church is located at 900 Bemidji Ave. N. The exhibits will be on display from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. through March 27th.
