Headwaters Fiddle Camp

June 21, 2021

Come join us in the heart of downtown Bemidji for several days of great fiddling, guitar playing, creativity, and lots of fun. From fiddle and bass to uke and banjo players, all string musicians are welcome! This year’s camp will have a special focus on the fascinating fiddle traditions of Ireland, Scotland and Canada. The camp will also explore the history of the fiddle in northern Minnesota by looking back at the people who carried their fiddles into barn dances and bunkhouses in the early days of the state! We will practice fiddle tunes, songwriting, improv, playing by ear and you will get a chance to play in front of a friendly audience of family and friends. Your Fiddle Camp fee also gives you free admission to the Thursday, July 8 evening performance featuring our talented teaching team. Participants will have the chance to build their own bodhran (an Irish frame drum) with Bemidji musician and bodhran master Eric Carlson. Brian Miller and Mary Vanorny head up the week-long camp, along with Eric Carlson and Carrie Dlutkowski.

The cost to attend Headwaters Fiddle Camp is $100/ participant. Meals and program materials provided. Registration deadline is Monday, June 21. This camp is limited to 20 participants, so get your deposit/payment in early before it fills up! Financial assistance is available. You can call 218.444.5606 or visit headwatersmusicandarts.org to register.

Headwaters Fiddle Camp is made possible by the voters of Minnesota, through a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
