April snow showers bring… May music! Join us to beat the springtime blues with a mix of great music and talent at Headwaters Open Mic and CoffeeHouse On May 6 at 7pm. Held in downtown Bemidji at Headwaters Music & Arts (519 MN Ave NW), this monthly community gathering offers a friendly open mic opportunity and welcoming environment for folks to listen and perform. Mattea, an alumni of Bemidji State University, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with focus on piano and voice. She sang both alto and soprano in the Bemidji Choir and Chamber Singers and was Madrigal Dinner Queen in 2010. Matea has taken her music abroad with the Bemidji Choir, singing in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Latvia, and Lithuania. While at BSU Mattea also performed as a percussionist in the Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Pep Band, and she sang with the Blue Ice Jazz Band, the Twin Cities-based choir From Age To Age, and the Twin Ports Choral Project in Duluth. Mattea’s other accomplishments include directing the Bemidji Boy Choir, BSU Women’s Choir, serving as the Bemidji Choir Vice President and as the President of BSU’s chapter of the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference. A former music instructor at Headwaters Music and Arts, Mattea now works as the Office Manager at BSU’s Department of Music. She performs in the percussion section of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra, and directs the Bemidji-based volunteer choir Sanford and Friends Singers.
