The Department of Languages and Indigenous Studies, in collaboration with the Center for Diversity, Equity and INclusion are presenting a series of free events to commemorate Hispanic & Latino heritage at BSU this September.
This year’s theme is War, Revolution and Peace.
On Sept. 22, Dr. Dan Allosso will present on the Special Period in Cuba. During his presentation, he will discuss the US embargo of Cuba throughout the 70s and 80s, the collapse of Soviet aid, the effects on health, agriculture and diet, as well as the overall resilience of the Cubans. He will suggest an answer to the question of why the US was not able to tolerate a successful socialist experiment in the Western Hemisphere.
