For thousands of years, farmers in cultures around the world interwove dance, music, theater & visual art through rituals of planting & the harvest in celebration of the land & those who care for it. Through a contemporary approach, we propose to establish a tradition celebrating culinary and other multi-genre arts.
The goal of the Taste of the Arts rural spring tour sponsored by Belle Thalia Creative Arts Space and Mask and Rose Theater in Puposky , at height of planting times, is to give regional visitors a 2-day spring tour that allows them to stop at several locales that celebrate culinary food artists with a focus on fermented foods & garden produce (sourdough breads, kimchi, yogurt, kombucha, kraut, fermented ginger honey, pickled veggies, etc.) & at each stop an art installation &/or outdoor performance.
The dates & times are May 27th Saturday from 10-5:30 and Sunday, the 28th from 11:00-4:30 PM. While participants on this self-guided rural arts and foods driving tour will not be able to visit all farms, we suggest picking the food demos and arts of most interest and enjoying the beauty of this north country spring tour.
Maps and schedules indicating demo/performance times can be found after May 10th at Sunrise Foods and Harmony Co-op in Bemidji and north of Bemidji at Wildflower Cottages ( 4905 Bemidji Ave. ) . While a free event , we welcome donations at each locale so that we can repeat the Taste of the Arts Tour with an autumnal harvest version .
Some of the artists are wooden bowl, rug, & basket makers, garden sculpture creators, folk & opera singers, scarecrow fashion show artisans, poetry typed out for visitors on an antique typewriter, silk painting, weavings, and help in creating one’s own mushroom painting at the Puposky Pearl mushroom farm as some examples.
