MAHNOMEN– Michael Fairbanks was elected the new chairman of the White Earth Nation yesterday.

Fairbanks defeated Brent Gish, with an unofficial count of 1,352 votes to Gish’s 679 in a special general election.

Fairbanks will fill the unexpired four-year term of former Chairman Terry Tibbets, who was elected in 2016 and died in March after a lengthy illness.
