Fire claims life of Grand Rapids woman

A fire claimed the life of a Grand Rapids woman in an apartment building Wednesday morning.

The Grand Rapids Fire Department says they arrived at 5:19 a.m. when heavy smoke and flames were billowing out of one of the apartments on the main level.

The unnamed victim was quickly removed from the living room but she was later pronounced dead at the local hospital.

All other occupants of the apartment building evacuated safely and then later returned to their residences.

The cause of the fire is listed as “undetermined.” The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
