Hines woman injured in crash near Bemidji

A Hines woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center Tuesday after an early morning crash on Highway 71.

According to the state patrol, 54-year-old Gail Gustafson of Hines was southbound on Highway 71 in a GMC Canyon around 6:13 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, when she was struck head-on by a GMC Sierra.

The report says the Sierra was attempting to turn into the northbound lane on Highway 71 from Hillcrest Road in Port Hope Township, but crossed into the southbound lane making a wide turn.

The Sierra driver, 73-year-old Steve Fuller of Bemidji, was not injured.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Bemidji Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
