Law enforcement officials are investigating an apparent homicide after a man was allegedly shot near Bemidji.
According to a release from Beltrami County Sheriff Ernie Beitel, first responders arrived to the 11,000 block of Chokecherry Drive in Turtle River Township on a report from a man stating that he had been shot.
The man was found dead on the scene Sunday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.
A brief CodeRed notification was sent to the general area instructing residents to shelter in place until officials could confirm there was not an active threat to the community.
The Sheriff’s Office says this was an isolated event.
The DNR Enforcement Division, the Minnesota BCA and the Bemidji Police Department are assisting with the investigation.
No other information was immediately available.
