Impaired driving may be contributor to Eckles Township crash

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle crash with multiple injuries last weekend at Highway 2 and Highway 89 in Eckles Township.

According to their preliminary investigation, 21-year-old Brooklyn Janson was driving a 2003 GMC Sonoma eastbound on Highway 2 around 8:25 p.m. Saturday when she crossed the median and struck a westbound 2001 Ford Taurus, driven by 32-year-old Dayton Carlson of Bemidji.

Janson had no passengers in her GMC, but Carlson had four adult passengers in his Taurus: 31-year-old Alice Johnson of Bemidji, 20-year-old Albert Johnson of Bemidji, 33-year-old Guy Johnson of Redby and 74-year-old Oliver Johnson.

All occupants of both vehicles sustained varying levels of injury, and both drivers exhibited signs of impairment. The crash remains under investigation.

The Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Bemidji Police Department, Bemidji Fire Department, Bemidji Ambulance, Leech Lake Ambulance, Bagley Ambulance, Red Lake Ambulance, North Memorial Air Care and North Country First Responders.
