Leech Lake Tribal Council certifies candidates

The Leech Lake Tribal Council approved the 2020 certification of candidates during a special meeting Friday.

According to the release, incumbent Chairman Faron Jackson Sr., is running again and faces challenges from Janice Gale-Dahmen, Peter Jackson, Stephen Howard and Leonard Fineday.

Incumbent Leroy Staples-Fairbanks will run for District III committee person and faces challenges from Ronald Hare and Rodney Northbird.

Leech Lake Band members will head to the polls March 31 to decide who will advance to the General Election on June 9.

If a candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote on March 31, they will be declared the winner and no general election for that race will be held.
