LIVING UNITED: Backpack Buddies Feeds Kids Thanks To United Way & Sanford Health

Kayla Winkler & Denae Alamano

Several years ago the United Way of Bemidji Area began the Backpack Buddies program. It helped kids and families in need be fed through the weekend when school breakfast and lunch aren’t available. Sanford Health stepped up to fund the program at a much higher level, providing Backpack Buddies for all schools, which includes food pantries at the high school and college level.

Kayla Winkler of Sanford Health joins Denae and Kev to discuss why they took on the program and its importance to overall health. Denae discussed the hunger issues that plague our area and how Backpack Buddies helps provide food and prevent food insecurity issues for students.
