The Bemidji Police Department reports that the body of 35-year-old Matthew Asa was found Wednesday just before 5 p.m.

According to a release, officers responded to an area west of the city and north of 5th St. NW at about 4:54 p.m. on report of a found body.

Approximately 150 yards north of 5th St. NW in a large swampy area, officers located Asa, who was last seen at his Northland Apartments Home on the 600 block of America Ave. NW on Christmas Eve 2019.

Asa’s body has been transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. There is no indication of foul play, and Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin says there is no threat to the public at this time.
