Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison will assist in the review of the Beltrami County Jail death of Hardel Sherrell.
The BCA completed its investigation in August and referred the Sept. 2, 2018 death of Sherrell to the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office.
Ellison’s office accepted the request to assist in reviewing the case and possibly pursuing criminal charges.
“Hardel Sherrell’s life was important and had value. We’re committed to assisting the Beltrami County Attorney and will follow justice wherever it leads,” said Ellison in a statement.
“To Hardel’s mother and loved ones: you have my deepest condolences, and you can count on our very best effort.”
The review is expected to take time with no more comment until further notice.
