New scam threatening arrest is not connected with local law enforcement

Local authorities are warning of a new scam that appears to be coming from law enforcement.

According to an announcement from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, multiple callers reported a “Lieutenant David Heart with the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Division” threatening arrest and appearing to have information about the callers, such as addresses and phone numbers.

The call appears to come from International Falls.

These calls are not connected with the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.

“In Beltrami County, like all other counties in Minnesota and most counties around the country, we have a Sheriff’s ‘Office,’ as the agency is the responsibility of an elected official, while a ‘Department’ is commonly a branch or division of a government administration,” said the announcement.
