>>Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Suspected In Death Of NW MN Fisherman

(White Earth, MN)    Carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected as the cause of death for a northwestern Minnesota fisherman.  Police were called to a fish house on Norcross Lake near Waubun on Saturday and found  37-year-old Nathan Ray of Borup unresponsive inside the structure.  Police said he died before he could be taken to a hospital.  Minnesota authorities have warned ice fishermen about using gas heaters in their fish houses, saying carbon monoxide can build up quickly without proper ventilation.

>>Former Alexandria Police Chief Sentenced

(St. Paul, MN)    Former Alexandria Police Chief Richard Wyffels has been sentenced after pealing guilty to misconduct charges.  He was originally charged with felony theft for using his position as chief to make purchases on a city-issued credit card, buying computers, cell phones and televisions for his own personal use.  As part of a plea deal, Wyffels will spend four days in jail and pay 65-thousand dollars in restitution.

>>Phillips Projected To Finish Second In New Hampshire Primary

(Nashua, NH)    Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips is being urged to end his presidential campaign after a runner-up finish in New Hampshire. President Joe Biden wasn’t on the primary ballot but had his name written in by a majority of New Hampshire’s Democratic voters.  The chair of that state’s Democratic Party suggested last night that Phillips should end his campaign.  Ray Buckley said he doesn’t think other primary states would welcome Phillips’ message that Democrats should find an alternative to Biden.

>>Law Enforcement From MN, WI Preparing For Biden Visit To Superior

(Superior, WI)    Law enforcement officers from Minnesota and Wisconsin are helping with security preparations ahead of tomorrow’s trip by President Biden.  The President is scheduled to visit Superior, though the time and exact location have yet to be announced.  Even though the focus is on Wisconsin, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says there will be streets shut down on both sides of the Twin Ports area during the visit.  Biden is expected to talk about his Investing in America agenda and will likely mention the recent award of just over a billion dollars in federal aid to help with the reconstruction of the Blatnik Bridge.

>>Minnesota DNR To Receive Funding To Improve State’s Parks And Trails

(St. Paul, MN)    The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources shared its plan to allow every resident to enjoy Minnesota’s parks and trails.  The state legislature sanctioned the Minnesota DNR to attain nearly 150 million dollars for their “Get out MORE” investments.  The DNR is still narrowing down which projects are receiving funds.  They say they will break ground on their designs this spring and summer.

>Voting Begins For “Name A Snowplow” Contest

(Minneapolis, MN)    Voting is now open for MnDOT’s annual “Name a Snowplow” contest.  Transportation officials have whittled down eight-thousand submissions to just fifty finalists.  They include “Barbie’s Dream Plow,” “Dolly Plowton” and “Don’t Flurry, Be Happy.”  To see the full list and vote for your favorite name, go to MdDOT’s website.
