>>Man Dies In House Fire Near Ely

(Ely, MN)    Officials are investigating a deadly house fire north of Ely.  The blaze started yesterday afternoon in the 14 hundred block of Grant McMahan Boulevard.  The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says once the flames were brought under control, firefighters discovered a resident dead inside.  The deceased individual was described by 911 callers as an elderly man. >>Presidential Hopeful Nikki Haley To Speak In Bloomington Tonight

(Bloomington, MN)    Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is scheduled to hold a rally tonight in Bloomington.  The event will take place at the DoubleTree Hotel at 6:30 p.m. and doors open at 5 p.m.  Haley has doubled down on remaining in the race for the White House despite a 20-point loss to former President Donald Trump in her home state of South Carolina over the weekend.  The former governor’s campaign says it will spend at least a million dollars on campaign ads at least through next week in Super Tuesday states.(24/7 News Source)

>>Congressman Dean Phillips’ Constituents Have Mixed Feelings About His Presidential Campaign

(Undated)    Presidential candidate Congressman Dean Phillips is getting some pushback from some of his Minnesota constituents concerning his run for the White House.  The Democratic hopeful’s campaign has been met with a mix of anger and encouragement back home in his west suburban congressional district.  Some back Phillips’ claim that President Joe Biden is too old and politically unpopular to defeat former President Donald Trump a second time.  Others are frustrated that the third-term lawmaker has missed House votes while campaigning and question why he’s still running after landslide losses in New Hampshire and South Carolina.  Phillips will be able to gauge how much support he has in his district on March 5, when Minnesota and several other states hold their presidential primary elections on Super Tuesday.(24/7 News Source)

>>Inmates Found Dead At Crow Wing County Jail

(Brainerd, MN)    An investigation is underway after an inmate was found dead at the Crow Wing County Jail in Brainerd.  Authorities say the man was found unresponsive in his cell  after he was booked into the jail on a DWI charge. Correctional officers provided emergency aid but the prisoner was announced dead at the scene.  His name hasn’t been released.  (24/7 News Source)

>>Update: Public Memorial For Adam Finseth Moved To Indoor Venue

(Rochester, MN)  — The Rochester Fire Department will hold a public memorial for Burnsville Firefighter Adam Finseth this week at Rochester Assembly. Initially, the event was going to be held at Soldiers Field Memorial Park. The Rochester Fire Department released a statement yesterday, which reads in part, “After conferring with the National Weather Service, the Rochester Fire Department has made the decision to move the vigil for Adam Finseth indoors.” The memorial will be held tomorrow night at six-thirty.

>>Minnesota House Passes First Bill Of 2024 Session

(St. Paul, MN)  — The Minnesota House passed the first bill of the 2024 session. The measure is a correction to a 2023 tax law. Department of Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquart says the current law would cost taxpayers 350 million-dollars if changes aren’t made, which is what this bill aims to fix. The bill passed with near unanimous support. It now heads to the state Senate. (24/7 News Source)
