>>Overnight Fire Destroys Historic Lutsen Lodge On The North Shore

(Lutsen, MN)    The owners of a historic resort in Lutsen that was destroyed by fire say they plan to rebuild.  The blaze started early this morning at the Lutsen Lodge on the North Shore.  There were no guests at the site at the time of the fire.  Lutsen Lodge has been in operation for almost 140 years and is known as Minnesota’s oldest resort.(24/7 News Source)

>>Truck Drops Into Polk County Lake After Drive Onto Five Inches Of Ice

(Union Lake, MN)    The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers that the ice on many Minnesota lakes is not thick enough to support a full-size vehicle.  The warning comes after a Ford F-250 pickup drove onto Union Lake on Sunday.  The ice under the truck was about five-inches thick and the vehicle went through the ice and was completely submerged.  The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says ice needs to be between 13 and 17-inches thick to support the weight of a pickup.(24/7 News Source)

(Bemidji)The 2024 United Way of Bemidji Area grant application process is now open through March 29th for non-profits who serve clients in Beltrami County.  United Way funds non-profits who provide a local community service based on documented need(s) within one or more of United Way’s community impact areas.  The overall headings are Education, Basic Needs, and Health. Applications will be reviewed by a local volunteer committee.  Final investment decisions will be approved by the United Way of Bemidji Area Board of Directors in June.

>>Man Rescued This Morning From Red River

(Moorhead, MN)    A man has been pulled from the frigid Red River in Moorhead.   Crews from Fargo joined in the effort yesterday morning at the Main Avenue Bridge.  Working together they were able to pull the man from the water.  The victim’s identity and condition have not been released.(24/7 News Source)

>>DEED Finds MN Businesses Are Slightly Optimistic About 2024

(St. Paul, MN)    Minnesota businesses are feeling a bit better about the economy heading into the new year.  A survey of one-thousand manufacturing businesses conducted late last year by the state Department of Employment and Economic Development finds “slight optimism” in several areas.  The agency received around 250 responses, and businesses overall expect some growth in profits, orders and productivity.  The survey indicates doubt about growth in consumer spending, and labor availability is a concern for most manufacturing businesses.  Most of the businesses polled said they have few plans to use A-I, though some are exploring ways to enhance testing and product development using the technology.(24/7 News Source)

>>State Offering More Money To Next Cannabis Office Director

(St. Paul, MN)    The state will offer a bigger salary to the next head of the Office of Cannabis Management.  The latest job posting for the executive director’s position shows a salary range of between 133 and 190-thousand dollars a year.  The initial posting for the position had a salary range between 105 and 150-thousand dollars.  State officials say the new range is in line with what cannabis regulators are making in other states.  Applications for the post will close on February 26th.(24/7 News Source)

>>MN Officials Urge Taxpayers To Explore Child Tax Credit

(St. Paul, MN)    State officials are urging Minnesota taxpayers to explore the new child tax credit.  Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined state revenue officials in St. Paul yesterday to help promote the new credit, which offers up to 17-hundred and 50-dollars per child depending on household income.  About 300-thousand Minnesotans are expected to be eligible for the program.  Revenue officials say they will travel around the state to make more taxpayers aware of the credit.(24/7 News Source)

>>Minnesotans With Electric Or Hybrid Cars May Get Rebate Up To Ten Thousand Dollars

(Undated)    Minnesotans who bought or leased electric or hybrid vehicles may qualify for a rebate of up to ten thousand dollars.  For those who purchased used E-Vs, the rebate is up to 600 bucks.  Vehicles must be bought or leased on or after May 25, 2023, and titled in Minnesota.  Consumers can apply for the rebate starting Wednesday on the Minnesota Department of Commerce website.(24/7 News Source)
