Major Drug Transport Bust; Beltrami Solid Waste Hours Adjustment;

Early Wildfire Season

(St. Paul) Minnesota state troopers uncovered a more-than-170-pounds of illicit drugs when they stopped a man on his drive back from Mexico. A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted 40 year old Rito Gaxiola Jr., on one count of possession with intent to distribute those controlled substances. According to the Star Tribune.

The criminal complaint reads that law enforcement seized large quantities of narcotics in various parts of his Jeep  The alleged haul: 52 pounds of fentanyl powder, 45 pounds of methamphetamine, 68 pounds of cocaine and 8.5 pounds of fentanyl pills.  Gaxiola has a history of controlled substance convictions and once escaped from Duluth’s Federal Prison Camp, remaining a fugitive for nearly four months. MN Shooting Arrest Update

>>Police Arrest 18-year-old on Nine Attempted Murder Charges

(Minneapolis, MN)    Minneapolis Police have arrested and charged an 18-year-old with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder, in connection with a mass shooting that happened in August.  Police say two men shot and injured at least nine people while they were playing dice; five of the victims were children.  Surveillance video showed the getaway car belonging to the guardian of 18-year old Jaden Trejaun [ tre-shon ] Butcher.  Six months after evading police in a chase, Butcher showed up to a local hospital after being shot. (Blackduck) Beltrami County Solid Waste has announced new operating hours for the Blackduck/Kelliher Transfer Station located on Hwy 72 NE, Blackduck, MN effective immediately. The new hours are Tuesday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, Saturday 8:00am-1:30pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Other solid waste locations will remain on their normal hours. (24/7 News Source)

(St. Paul, MN)    The Minnesota Department of Natural resources is warning of an early start to the wildfire season this year.  They say conditions are ripe after a record warm winter along with a lack of snow.  They say they have responded to 45 wildfires  over the past ten days, covering 545 acres of land.  According to officials, the majority of the state is currently under some sort of fire danger risk.(24/7 News Source)

>>Aitkin Man Killed In Pickup Crash

(Aitkin Co., MN)    A man is dead after a pickup crash in Aitkin County.  Authorities say it happened yesterdaymorning on Highway 47.  The truck left the roadway for some reason, and 50-year-old Jeffrey Lee Martinson was ejected from the vehicle.  The Minnesota State Patrol says he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.  Further details haven’t been released.
