Walz S-O-S Overview; ND Mayor Faces Felony After Becker County Crash; MyPillow Evicted From Shakopee Warehouse Due To Delinquent Rent

>>Walz Gives State Of The State Speech

(Owatonna, MN)    Governor Walz is asking lawmakers to support the state bonding bill and pass more laws to help reduce gun violence.  The governor gave his State of the State speech last night at Owatonna High School.  He used the address to look back on last year’s accomplishments, including new funding for education and public safety and legal protections for the LGBTQ community and reproductive rights.  He called on lawmakers to work together to pass the bonding bill and his supplemental budget, and said he would support new protections for in-vitro fertilization.  Walz also asked lawmakers to support tougher gun control measures, including raising penalties for those who buy guns for people who are not allowed to have them because of prior criminal convictions.

>>Mapleton Faces Felony Charges In Minnesota Crash

(Mapleton, ND) —  Mapleton, North Dakota mayor Andrew Draeger now faces felony charges in a car crash in Minnesota that seriously injured his passenger.  It happened last month in Becker County where Draeger allegedly took a curve too fast, veered off the road, and crashed into trees and a large rock.  The woman in the passenger seat suffered a fractured neck and back, and police say a blood alcohol test showed Draeger was over the legal limit at the time of the crash.  He’s charged with two counts of criminal vehicular operation.(24/7 News Source)

>>Duluth City Council Rejects Resolution Supporting Gaza Cease-Fire

(Duluth, MN)    Duluth will not join other cities in Minnesota in supporting a permanent cease-fire in Gaza.  The Duluth City Council heard two hours of public comment on a cease-fire resolution last night before rejecting the measure in a 5-4 vote.  Those opposing the measure said it’s the council’s job to deal with local issues such as roads and taxes.  At least five other Minnesota cities have passed resolutions calling for an end to the conflict in Gaza.(24/7 News Source)

>>Stearns County Woman Pleads Guilty To Drug Charges In North Dakota

(Fargo, ND)    A Stearns County woman is facing a term in federal prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges.  Deanna Gerads of Freeport entered her plea yesterday in U.S. District Court in Fargo, North Dakota.  Investigators say Gerads was part of a group that distributed meth in North Dakota and Minnesota in 2021 and 2022.  She had been a fugitive for over a year when she was captured in Mexico last year.  She will be sentenced in July.(24/7 News Source)

(Shakopee, MN) —  My Pillow is being ordered to vacate a warehouse location in Shakopee. A judge ordered in favor of the building owner First Industrial, which claimed My Pillow owes more than 200-thousand dollars for rent.  MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell was not in the courtroom.  The pillow company still has other Twin Cities locations.  (24/7 News Source)
