Today is the first day of No Mow May.
This free program is open to City of Bemidji residents and is sponsored by Bemidji Parks & Rec on behalf of pollinators.
Registrants who sign up on the city’s website can get a yard sign.
The benefits of waiting to mow until June include more dandelions and violets as pollinators emerge from dormancy and more resilient and drought-resistant grass.
The City Council passed a resolution last month allowing the program to return for a second year.
