Oak Grove man drowns in Cass County lake

A 65-year-old man from Oak Grove drowned in rural Walker Thursday afternoon.

First responders from Cass County responded to the report that a man was struggling in the water near the Sand Point area of Leech Lake around 12:50 p.m.

The caller said they saw the man near a pontoon but as they got closer, they could no longer see him.

After searching the area for about an hour and a half, the body of the man was recovered.

The victim’s name has not yet been released. An autopsy is pending.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department and conservation officers from the Minnesota DNR.
