Obituary identifies boy killed in farming accident

An obituary in the Grand Rapids Herald Review identified the boy killed in a farming accident early this week as 9-year-old Marshall “Turbo” Bader, of rural Boy River.

According to a release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, deputies are still investigating the incident that happened Sunday around 5:30 p.m. They say Marshall was accidentally pinned under the arms of a skid steer loader on the family’s farm. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lake Country Responders, Remer Ambulance and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Chaplaincy Initiative assisted at the scene.

Marshall, according to his obituary, loved the sport of hockey and was looking forward to playing on the Thunderhawks team in the state tournament with his friends.

Marshall was a 3rd grader at the Murphy Elementary School in Grand Rapids.

The hockey community across the state are placing hockey sticks, some wrapped with Grand Rapids orange tape, outside their front doors in solidarity with the Bader family.

A memorial service is scheduled for this Sunday, Jan. 26, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Deer River from 2 to 4 p.m., with a luncheon to follow.
