One arrested for drunk driving after crash in Hubbard County

A 30-year-old Park Rapids man was arrested early Saturday morning after law enforcement found an abandoned, seriously damaged vehicle in Hubbard County’s Lake Emma Township.

According to Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes, law enforcement responded Saturday around 2:00 a.m. on report of a crash with an overturned vehicle in the ditch on County Road 40.

The reporting party told law enforcement that she saw the male driver leave the scene in another vehicle.

According to the investigation, the 2007 Mazda SUV was westbound on County Road 40 when it drove off the roadway and hit a driveway approach. The vehicle then rolled before coming to a stop on its roof.

Deputies found the Mazda owner, 30-year-old Jacob Sweitzer of Park Rapids, at his residence. Sweitzer, according to the release, admitted to driving the vehicle when it crashed and that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Test results showed Sweitzer’s blood alcohol concentration to be .17, over twice the legal limit, at the time of his arrest. He’s facing a third degree DWI charge.
