Park Rapids American Legion fishing derby cancelled

The American Legion Fishing Derby, scheduled for next weekend in Park Rapids, has been cancelled.

According to a release, early snow and a lot of it created poor ice conditions on Fish Hook Lake.

With the warmup in the forecast, organizers say they were concerned about safety.

Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes reportedly commended the Legion for making the right decision.

While the ice fishing portion of the event has been canceled, many of the event’s other activities will proceed, with a fish fry, two dances, and the raffle still scheduled.

Anyone who would like to refund of their raffle ticket should contact the American Legion at 218-732-3360 no later than Friday, Jan. 31, at 3:30 p.m.
