Pennington man killed in Bemidji crash

A 76-year-old man from Pennington was killed in a crash early this morning in Bemidji.

According to a release from the Bemidji Police Department, the crash around 5:20 a.m. on the 5100 block of Bemidji Ave. N was a head-on collision with a 2004 Honda Odyssey and a 2006 Chevrolet Impala.

The Pennington man, whose name has not yet been released, was driving the Odyssey in the northbound lane when the southbound Impala, driven by a 32-year-old St. Cloud man, crossed over the centerline and collided with the minivan.

The Pennington man was transported to the Sanford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Impala had a passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Bemidji.

The Impala occupants were treated on the scene by responders after being extricated from the vehicle by the Bemidji Fire Department, who used the jaws-of-life for both vehicles. The man and woman were then transported to the Sanford Bemidji Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The status of their injuries is not yet known.

The names of all involved will be released after notification of family members. It is still not known if impaired driving was a factor in this collision.

The Minnesota State Patrol will reportedly help with the accident reconstruction.
