Proposals sought to expand childcare, grant funding available

Greater Bemidji is accepting grant proposals to expand child care in the area. Area businesses, nonprofits and family childcare providers are welcome to apply.

Matching grants of up to $100,000 will be available, with priority given to proposals serving infants and toddlers.

Beltrami County faces a gap of about 1,200 child care slots for children under five, which has remained consistent over the recent past.

Executive Director of Greater Bemidji Dave Hengel said, “Ensuring working parents have access to quality child care choices is an important strategy to retain and grow the region’s workforce in an already tight labor market.”

Grant funds can be used for capital expenses like new construction, kitchen updates, and renovation costs.
