Public comment on Chippewa National Forest’s Winnie Sand project

The United States Forest Service is seeking comment on the Winnie Sand Resource Management Project in the Chippewa National Forest.

According to a release, the proposed vegetation management activities align with the 2004 Chippewa National Forest Land & Resources Management Plan and the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Desired Vegetative Conditions.

The vegetation improvements would enable plant diversity in the project area.

Other proposed activities focus on improving recreation opportunities and visitor experience as well as adding about 6,800 acres of prescribed burns over the 10-15 year project lifeline.

More information on the project is available online or at the Deer River USDA Forest office.
