Red Lake Initiative to take effect on Jan. 1, 2021

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners adopted a memorandum of understanding with the Red Lake Nation for the Child Welfare initiative.

The initiative will transition the county’s fiscal responsibility to Red Lake for certain child welfare services.

This was current administrator Kay Mack’s last meeting in her role, as she is retiring this week, and said that this initiative process built relationships between the two entities.

Red Lake Family and Children Services director Cheri Goodwin has been a leader in this project for the past five years, and emphasized her focus on family reunification.

The Red Lake Initiative is scheduled take effect on Jan. 1, 2021.

The county board also adopted the new solid waste ordinance, and adopted the 2021 budget and levy.
