Situation Update for Thursday, April 8

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 2,535 new COVID-19 cases today and 14 new deaths, bringing the state’s COVID case total to 535,182 and the death toll to 6,922.

Six of today’s reported deaths were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. There have been 4,304 deaths in these types of facilities.

Today’s data comes after over 44,000 tests were completed yesterday. Over 3.7 million Minnesotans have been tested for COVID-19, with 8.4 million tests completed.

Almost 511,000 of the state’s COVID patients no longer need isolation.

One of today’s deaths was a Beltrami County resident in their early 80s.

MDH is reporting 18 new COVID cases in Beltrami County today, 10 new cases in Cass County, and six new cases in Hubbard County.

COVID-19 case rates are on the rise for most of the area. For the two-week period ending March 27, Beltrami County had a new case rate of 24.5 cases per 10,000 people, a nine point increase.

Cass County’s rate increased about three points to 17.57, Clearwater County’s rate stayed the same at 11.35, and Hubbard County’s rate increased about four points to 7.19.

Since the pandemic began, Beltrami County has had 3,636 cases and 57 deaths, Cass County has had 2,382 cases and 26 deaths, Clearwater County has had 750 cases and 14 deaths, and Hubbard County has had 1,664 cases and 41 deaths.
