Situation Update for Thursday, Dec. 17

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 2,775 new COVID-19 cases and 83 new COVID deaths, bringing the state’s case count to 389,171 and the death toll to 4,658.

Of all deaths, 3,034 were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of all cases, 29,527 were health care workers.

Today’s data comes from about 48,000 tests completed yesterday. Since March, over 5.033 million tests have been completed.

To date, 358,667 COVID patients no longer need isolation.

Two Beltrami County COVID deaths were reported today, one resident over 100 and another in their late 90s. One Cass county death was also reported, a resident in their late 70s.

MDH reported 40 new cases in Beltrami County, 16 new cases in Cass County, three new cases in Clearwater County, and 18 new cases in Hubbard County.

Beltrami County has had 2,698 cases and 32 deaths, Cass County has had 1,808 cases and 14 deaths, Clearwater County has had 619 cases and 10 deaths, and Hubbard County has had  1,324 cases and 34 deaths.

New case rates were also reported today. Beltrami County’s case rate dropped by about 20 points, to 99.75; Cass County’s rate dropped almost 40 points, to 121.63; Clearwater County’s rate dropped 30 points to 135.04; and Hubbard County’s case rate dropped 60 points to 98.26. These case rates are based on new cases per 10,000 people for the two-week period ending Dec. 5.
