It’s time once again for Paul Bunyan Broadcasting, Ken K. Thompson Jewelry, The Bemidji Pioneer and the United Way of Bemidji Area to recognize the efforts of volunteers in our community by awarding the Someone Special Volunteer Award for outstanding volunteer service.
The mission of the Bemidji Senior Center is to provide a welcoming environment encompassing activities and programs primarily for senior citizens of the Bemidji area. We are dedicated to meeting the needs of seniors and enhancing social, recreational and informational opportunities while working with other agencies.
Barb Bjerke has been a consistent volunteer at the center for years. She has served on the board of directors, chaired many committees, volunteered for our Spring Style Show fundraiser, shared her artistic talent by teaching alcohol ink art classes, worked as a hostess, been a gofer collecting and delivering anything needed for the center, she takes many photos for the center to be put on Facebook, our website, in our newsletter, in the newspapers, she keeps our Facebook page up to date and works on refining our monthly newsletter. Barb keeps an upbeat attitude while helping everyone around her.
Tony Daniels has been a wonderful volunteer for the Bemidji Senior Center for many years. He has served on the board of directors as president. Tony works as host at the center a couple of days every month. Tony has volunteered at our monthly pancake breakfast for a long time. In this capacity, he has done everything from serving juice or coffee to taking the money and selling tickets. Tony has volunteered at many of our fundraisers and other events and helps any way that he can. Tony is a soft-spoken man who is kind to everyone around him and a wonderful volunteer.
