Spring burning restrictions begin

Burning restrictions are underway in northern Beltrami County, with more restrictions anticipated for the rest of the county tomorrow.

The DNR will restrict open burning in northern Cass County, Clearwater County and Mahnomen County tomorrow, too.

DNR officials say escaped debris burns are the number one cause of wildfires, and the state will not issue burning permits for brush or yard waste in these counties until restrictions are lifted.

Residents can compost, chip or bring their brush to a collection site while restrictions are in place.
