State parks and recreation areas offer fireworks-free means of celebrating the 4th

The rocket’s red glare will light up the night skies of Minnesota through the weekend and Tuesday for Independence Day celebrations.

The DNR says the state parks and recreation areas are a great escape from loud fireworks displays, with Minnesota rules prohibiting the use of fireworks in state parks.

Ann Pierce, Parks and Trails Division director, says Minnesota state parks and recreation areas offer a fireworks-free environment for those who want to celebrate Independence Day in a more peaceful place.

Visitors to the state parks and recreation areas are encouraged to keep safety in mind, such as: packing smart with sunscreen, insect repellant, a first aid kit and plenty of water; wearing lifejackets while boating; avoiding bear encounters by keeping food and garbage secure in the outdoors; and check the weather forecast before heading out.
