Two snowmobile crashes in southern Cass County result in fatality, serious injuries

Snowmobile crashes in southern Cass County over the weekend led to one fatality and more injured.

Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk says a snowmobile crash near rural Staples Saturday evening involved a lone occupant and a technical failure.

The track on the 2007 Yamaha machine became dislodged, causing the crash and the ejection of the 65-year-old operator who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A separate crash Saturday morning in rural Nisswa involved a 49-year-old Coon Rapids woman who struck a tree.

Her 15-year-old male passenger was transported to St. Cloud via helicopter for treatment of serious injuries while she was transported to a Brainerd Hospital.

All riders were wearing their helmets.
