Walz announces four week pause on gatherings, sports, and dining at restaurants

Gov. Tim Walz announced new restrictions during a press conference Wednesday night, where he explained the exponential growth of new COVID infections in the state.

The new restrictions through Friday, Dec. 18 are: in-person social gatherings with people outside the household are prohibited; bars and restaurants will have take-out and delivery services only; gyms, fitness studios, entertainment venues and event spaces will need to close; and adult and youth sports are paused.

Retail businesses, salons, and places of worship may continue to operate, childcare will remain open, and schools will continue to operate under the safe learning plan. All other current restrictions remain in effect.
