The Minnesota Department of Health reported 480 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases and four new COVID-related deaths, bringing the state’s cumulative total to 52,281 cases and 1,580 deaths.
Of those deaths, 1,210 were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities. Of those cases, 6,043 were health care workers.
Approximately 979,988 tests have been completed so far, with over 9,000 completed on Monday, July 27. To date, 45,987 COVID patients have recovered to the point they no longer need to be isolated.
COVID patients in ICU wards have increased, at 138 today, with 156 others hospitalized in non-ICU settings today.
The largest age cohort of COVID-positive patients continues to be between 20-29, making up 12,406 total cases.
MDH today reported one new COVID-19 case in Beltrami County, total of 157; one new case in Cass County, total of 45 with two deaths; two new cases in Hubbard County, total of 21; one new case in Itasca County, total of 121 with 12 deaths; and two new cases in Koochiching County, total of 60 with three deaths.
According to MDH figures for the week ending July 23, Beltrami County, per 100,000 residents, has a cumulative case rate of 27. Koochiching County’s rate is 37, Itasca’s rate is 25, Cass County’s rate is 12, Hubbard County’s rate is 6, Mahnomen County’s rate is 31 and Roseau County’s rate is 22. Overall, the cumulative case positive rate for the entire state is 91.
These cumulative case rates are determined by applying the total number of cases to the county’s population, and is one tool MDH is using to compare one county to another. Beltrami County’s actual population is roughly 47,000. The “per 100,000” makes it easier to compare counties to counties, some of which may have very large populations, where others have small ones.
